The emphasis on embodiment, self organization, and irreversible biological existence points toward something that purely functional comparisons often miss. A system may reproduce increasingly many outputs associated with personhood without sharing the mode of existence in which those outputs originally acquired significance. That makes me wonder whether the central difference is not intelligence level but the presence of a world that can matter to the entity from the inside. If so, linguistic competence may be evidence of remarkable symbolic organization without settling the question of personhood.
